After the Philistines were sent into exile, the land of Philistia preserved its name. It is cited thus in the Book of the Maccabees as well as in Greek and Roman sources. Following the suppression of the Bar Kokhba Revolt, Roman Emperor Hadrian gave the name Palestine to Judah, in order to erase the name Judah. The name “Palestine” became associated with the Land of Israel until the establishment of the State of Israel. And what about the Philistines? Because of the tendency of Judaism and Christianity to view the Philistines as an enemy, who threatens the practical and spiritual existence of Jews and Christians, the term “Philistine” has come to mean a traitor, enemy, an uncultured or boorish person.

Does the term "Philistine" accurately define the character and world of the Philistines? Remember that history is written by the victors.
