The reconstruction of the palace of Pylos in southern Greece illustrates the magnificent world from which the Philistines came. In the center of the palace’s throne-room was a large fireplace similar to those found in Philistine houses. The palace was the dwelling of the ruler of the city who was chosen from the military elite of Mycenaean society. This palace was destroyed around 1200 BCE.
